In 2008, the Political Observatory was created in collaboration with the Political Studies Department of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon (FCSH-UNL), with the approval of most of the lecturers and students of the three cycles of Political Studies. This project consolidated itself in March 2009 with the authorization of the Scientific Board of the FCSH-UNL, as an organic structure of research with the name Observat\u00f3rio Pol\u00edtico \u2013 Political Observatory.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Observatory is an independent and trademarked institution, it is a non-profit association for scientific research and constitutes itself as an autonomous research centre in the area of political studies. It researches and produces services to its researchers and associates in the privileged areas of the Observatory\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n

The underlying dynamics of political structures and processes, the emergence of political elites, the alterations of political and social structures as well as the articulations between the political power and civil society are researched autonomously from party trends and with the analytical and scientific independence which leads to reliable political analysis.<\/p>\n

With a wide and multilateral scientific body, an independent and internationalized action which scientifically characterizes it, the Political Observatory affirms itself as a centre for excellence in political studies. Thus, the Observatory has the perfect conditions needed for interdisciplinary cooperation. The viability of a welcoming space has consolidated and has given visibility to the research area dedicated to Political Studies, featuring lecturers, PhD students and young researchers of Political Studies, who work on four strategic goals:<\/span><\/p>\n

    30.04<\/strong> End of the second phase of the Political Observatory’s XV Curricular and Extracurricular Internship Programme.<\/p>\n

    22.04 <\/strong>The initiative “Portugal Through the Eyes of the Young Diaspora<\/a><\/strong>” took place at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Covilh\u00e3, Portugal, in partnership with the Ant\u00f3nio Pargana Foundation. The Vice-Coordinator of the Political Observatory, Professor Dr. Patr\u00edcia Oliveira, presented the paper “Cinema and Politics in the Diaspora”.<\/p>\n

    20.04\u00a0<\/strong>The IV International Congress of Political Science and International Relations<\/a><\/strong> was held at the Fernando Pessoa University (UFP) in Porto. Professors Dr. Cristina Montalv\u00e3o Sarmento (Director of the Political Observatory) and Dr. Patr\u00edcia Oliveira (Vice-Director of the Political Observatory) participated in the Scientific Committee. The Political Observatory was represented at the Congress by Carolina Querido (Assistant Director of the Political Observatory; IPRI-NOVA), Gabriel Pires Dias (former intern at the Political Observatory), and Pedro Palitos de Carvalho (intern at the Political Observatory).<\/p>\n

    15.04 <\/strong>Book launch of \u201cdesConstitui\u00e7\u00e3o portuguesa<\/strong>\u201d, authored by Researcher and Professor Carlos Oliveira Santos<\/span>, at the O\u2019Culto da Ajuda. The work uses the process of blackout poetry on the pages of the 1976 Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, creating \u201canti-poems\u201d.<\/p>\n

    26.03 <\/strong>The conference \u201cTempos e Pol\u00edticas de Moralidade<\/span>\u200b\u201d <\/a><\/strong>took place. It was an initiative of the Political Observatory, organized by Professor Doctor Maria Jo\u00e3o Cabrita (UBI-PRAXIS) and Professor Doctor Patr\u00edcia Oliveira (ULus\u00f3fona; PRAXIS; Political Observatory).
