POLITICS AND PUBLIC OPINION<\/strong><\/p>\n

A three-party programme between the Political Observatory, the Post-graduate Programme in Sociology of the University of G\u00f3ias (Brazil) and the Institute of Iberian Studies of the University of Salamanca (Spain), signed in the scope of the collaboration promoted by the Doctoral College of Tordesilhas.<\/p>\n

Tordesillas Group<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Tordesillas Group was created at the I Meeting of Deans of the Universities of Brazil, Spain and Portugal, which\u00a0took place\u00a0in 2000 at\u00a0the host university \u2013 the University of Vallodolid,\u00a0located in the city of Tordesillas. The event\u00a0took place at the famous House of the Treaty, the place where the historical Treaty of Tordesillas was signed.<\/p>\n

Celebrating the 500th<\/sup>\u00a0<\/span>anniversary of the discovery of Brazil, the main event was to promote the collaboration between the three countries\u2019 universities in the areas of science and technology.\u00a0During the first meeting, the Ministers of Science and Technology from Brazil and Spain were present as well as Portugal\u2019s Secretary of State. The Tordesillas Group is currently composed of 28 universities from Brazil, 19 from Spain and 8 from Portugal. There\u00a0are 3 headquarters, one in each country: the Brazilian HQ is located at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro \u2013 UNIRIO, the Spanish HQ at the University of Vallodid \u2013 UVA and the Portuguese HQ at the University of Coimbra \u2013 UC and is sponsored by Santander Bank \u2013 Universities.<\/p>\n

At a preliminary stage, this program was signed by the Political Observatory, as a research unit of the New University of Lisbon, before the participation of the Doctoral College of Tordesillas was formalized in September 2010 by the same university. In November of the same year, Professor Cristina Montalv\u00e3o Sarmento travelled to Brazil and followed up with the contacts at the University of G\u00f3ias. She was present at the XII Meeting of the Tordesillas Group, which occurred from 17th<\/sup>-18th<\/sup>\u00a0<\/span>November 2011 at the University of Lisbon, in Portugal.<\/p>\n
