The PO\u2019s associate researchers also work under specific subjects in groups either in the country or abroad. The PhD researchers motivate and contribute with work concerning Political Studies.<\/p>\n
Whether they are concluded MA thesis\u2019, PhDs in their initial or final stage or even concluded or post-doctoral studies all demonstrate scientific work. These works represent a starting point of interest in a particular subject and thus are taken into account for the coherent distribution of work into different and autonomous research groups.<\/p>\n
Accordingly, major contemporary themes are laid out in the various research groups. These groups cover several research areas within the Political Studies area and are considered the main axis of research within the PO. These groups are: Human Rights, a group coordinated by Maria Jo\u00e3o Cabrita; the study of the complex relationship between Culture and Politics coordinated by Rui Vieira Nery. A reflection on our time is present in the (public and private) Security Studies groups coordinated by Pedro Clemente. The last two groups discuss emerging phenomenons: International Terrorism and (In)security, coordinated by Cristina Montalv\u00e3o Sarmento; Strategy coordinated by Ant\u00f3nio Horta Fernandes.<\/p>\n
Besides the main axis of research we can also find research groups on Institutions and Political Processes (specifically analyzing the Portugal\u2019s case) coordinated by Jos\u00e9 Fontes; the renewed debate on Federalism, Regions and Regionalism which aggregates several scholars from the State\u2019s various areas under the orientation of Paulo Vicente; lastly, the most relevant aspects of Public Finances are developed under the coordination of Jo\u00e3o Ricardo Catarino. Additionally, a team led by Carlos Leone working the Archive and Repertoire of Tito Morais is available to the Observatory\u2019s researchers.<\/p>\n
